Oh, My Achin....

After several years of feeling discomfort, I found myself in incredible pain 2 weeks ago. My neck was killing me. I found that I could barely stand up straight and sitting was almost impossible. I got an appointment at the chiropractor.
He did xrays and some neurological testing and asked me to come back the following week. He told me heating pad might help in the meantime.
When I showed up for my results, the chiropractor had xrays up in his office. The spine in the picture came out of the pelvis in such a sharp angle, I thought surely this person had been in an accident.
Then he told me those were my xrays and he was surprised I could walk at all. He explained why I had such pain in my neck; the bones were fusing together.
In the end, I am at this guy's office almost every day for one thing or another, massage or correction, and even some dietary consult...I cannot tell if it is helping, today I am in terrible pain.
So that's where I've been and that's where I am today. I don't know what else I can do, I surely do not want surgery and cannot live my life on pills.
My beds are full of weeds and the tomatoes are rotting on the vine....
I sure would appreciate any input from anyone with any experience with any of this....

  1. Dear Sissy ~ So sorry that you are having such awful pain. When we go the 'natural' route, vs. the 'modern medicine' route, it takes time. The body was made to heal itself, whereas modern medicine does it's best to take care of the pain now, but not get down to the root cause, or allow our bodies to heal, with diet, etc.

May you feel God's loving, healing presence flowing through and surrounding you at this time.

Read up on herbs and vitamins that will help in healing your spine. Massage therapy is GREAT too.

  5. Oh Sissy-how terrible. I sure hope you find some relief. Please seek a SECOND opinion though. Perhaps someone else can give you a better idea of what is going on.

  6. I'm so sorry to hear this, Sissy. Being in constant pain can be miserable. Back and neck pain seem to be one of those problems that aren't easily diagnosed and resolved. I would get a second opinion, if I were you, in case there is something the first one missed. I hope you get some relief soon!

  9. The weeds and garden can wait, your health comes first! I'm glad that you went to see the chiropractor and that he was able to find the cause of your pain. It may take time but no doubt you will eventually find some relief once the massages, corrections, etc, start working. I'll keep you in my prayers, may you soon be free from all that pain. xoxo

  11. Oh, Sissy, I'm so very sorry for what you're going through with your back/neck pain.

My husband had severe lower back pain this summer. He saw his chiropractor about ten times, but was actually getting worse. The chiropractor suggested he get an MRI because not everything can be seen on an xray. MRI showed that he had a herniated disk and a couple of bulging ones. He's had two steroid injections in the last few months and is so, so much better. Will it last? We don't know.

I'm a fan of chiropractors, but if you don't get relief from the pain soon, please consider other options.

In the meantime, prayers and positive thoughts for you.

    Hang in there, blogger friend.

  12. I know this may sound weird, but off and on I have had back pain and sciatica that would go from my tailbone down my leg and keep me awake every night.

I started doing yoga (not the kind with the fast sun salutations) and it has all but gone away in just a few months only doing it 45 mins, twice a week.

My regular doctor also says sitting on a big exercise ball and even just flopping over it and rolling it around helps her alot. Also, Ibuprofen must be taken before it gets out of hand--like most pain meds. Adults can take up to 12 tablets a day, either 3 four times or 4 three times. Two does nothing.

Hope this helps and that Ms. Cher reads this too!

Sissy, now that you have seen a chiropractor, you should also see a regular doctor. Second opinions give you options. Hope you feel better soon!

  14. Wow Sissy, haven't been on here for a few weeks and so sorry to hear you are in such pain. I'm glad you are getting some relief from your chiropractor but it will definitely take some time. My niece is a chiro in Rockford and I went to her for the very first time earlier this year. You would say I was kinda skeptical, but have to say I'm hooked. I just think it is a very slow process, but the fusing doesn't sound so good. Sure hope your chiro can help you because back surgery sounds drastic. I actually got on the blog site to specifically let you know that the Na-Da Farm event on Woodlawn Road is this weekend - Friday evening and Saturday. Here is the link just in case.

I'm still not sure if I will be able to go. Please take care of yourself, listen to your body, and seek a second opinion if you do not start feeling better.
    Take care, Connie (akaLOU)

  17. I'm so sorry you're in such pain!

I've had a chiropractor fix a problem for me (a pinched nerve was causing my leg to go numb from the bottom up about 5 years ago), and it took a long time, but it worked.

However, I also did go to see my regular doctor, and got an MRI to make sure there wasn't another problem that the chiropractor might have made worse.

I agree with other commenters here --combine the chiropractic with some modern medicine to make sure you've got the correct approach to the problem.

  18. Oh Sissy, I just read this and so sorry you are in pain. Chronic pain just affects everything. I hope you are able to find some relief temporarily with medication, warm baths, etc. From my experiences, it seems everyone's back issues develop differently, and what works for one person sometimes doesn't work for another. When I was in my twenties I had lower back pain and sciatica and was diagnosed with Scoliosis. My X-rays looked scary too. During the 5 or so years that followed that I began light weight training, cardio, and also went to two different chiropractors. One chiropractor's efforts did nothing. I credit the other one with completely fixing my back. It was a huge difference between the two different doctors, so I encourage you to visit numerous doctors. That second chiropractor was in Florida when I lived there for a few years, and it was 15 years ago, so not sure if I could find her now to recommend her. After the five years of exercising and the chiro, the X-rays of my back looked different. Spine was straighter, and I have not had those problems since. So I know the spine can change. I have a friend who had some problems with the vertebrae in near his neck and they were recommending fusion. He chose to try Yoga and that helped him so much that he did not need to have the surgery. Please give us an update when you can. I am thinking about you and praying for you.
