Warm Enough For Ya?

Today the plains states are getting hammered with a blizzard, but here in the Midwest, we are warmer than normal! The precipitation is all rain, because the temperatures are so warm.
Many folks are complaining about the lack of snow, something you will never hear from me. I was interested to see how far behind we actually are.
Part of the reason we are low on snow are the warm temperatures. How warm? Yesterday marked the 16th day of above normal temperatures for December. To date-December 2011 is 15 degrees warmer than last year's temperatures. The experts have been keeping track of December's temperatures since 1871 and 2011 falls in the top 20% of the 141 years.
All the warmth and rain is just fine with me, but I wanted to know exactly how much snow this area normally sees this time of year. I went to the National Snow Analyses sight. (Did you know there was one???!)

Wow. What a difference. Yesterday, it was 50 degrees.
Wonderful, but I am not naive enough to think this balmy weather will last all winter. It will snow, sooner or later!

  1. This weird weather with all the rain has weeds growing like crazy in my gardens. I did get some of them pulled yesterday since it wasn't raining for a while. They say our winter is going to be horrible though.

It can hold off! It can hold off! I have seen many a white Christmas here in Michigan so this year can be the rare green Christmas...

  4. I knew something was different!
I only miss the snow for the purpose of sculpting it when it's too bad to drive anywhere. I just started getting interested in this and now of course there is no snow. I know I would never hear you say you miss it!

  5. It wouldn't hurt my feeling at all if we didn't get any of the "white stuff!"
I saw dandelions still blooming and setting seed today!

  6. I hate the gray days worse than the snow, but anytime the chickens aren't freezing their little butts off I am happy. Really hard to keep them dry though. My yard makes sucking sounds like a sponge!

It could be worse. We could be having the blizzard they are out West.

  7. You KNOW how pissy I am about the lack of snow. I moved up here to have snow from Thanksgiving on. And yet, we have grass---and it's GREEN for goodness sake. I am livid. But glad you still have your lack of it, I know you don't like it.
But....what about that prediction for TONS OF SNOW they were calling for????????

    Must be nice!
    Merry Christmas to you!
But please send any unwanted stuff up here, okay???

  8. I am disappointed not to have a white Christmas, but other than that, I am quite happy to do without. It does bug me a bit to know pollution is behind the mild weather though. Have a wonderful Christmas holiday and all the best for the new year!

  9. I agree...I'll take this over all that snow and cold. I'm just afraid we will pay for this next April and May when I'm wanting spring!!

  10. We're almost 80 today in our part of Florida and, believe me, I don't want to see any frost. We're starting our dry/fire season, but no one is getting nervous yet as we've had a little rain this fall. Some years we have no rain for four or five months and the grass, so splendidly green now, will turn dry and brittle, as will the lush tropical green we're famous for. It's wonderful to visit for the warmth, but those of us who live here start hoping for rain by February, but it's usually June before the rains begin. And then we worry about that other season....

  11. I'd like a little snow for Christmas, but after that I won't complain if it stays this warm all winter!
