I Don't know his name, but...

This guy is awesome!!! The scent is so strong and lovely. I can smell it 20' away. This is my first iris.
It won't be my last!!
If anyone has any clue, I sure would appreciate a tip on his name...

I purchased the wrong Echinacea. This is 'Double Decker', a Frankenstein of the plant world, I think. I wanted 'Merlot'. I don't know how I put the one I wanted down and walked out with this Doppleganger. I do this sometimes with canned goods in the grocery store, too.
I wanted 2 cans of garbanzo beans. I come home with one garbanzo bean and one thing I totally don't need, don't like, and will never eat!!! WHY????

This is Oriental Poppy, 'Brilliant'. I have never seen it bloom and went out to rip it out. It has been there 3 years and I wanted the space for something more fabulous than these hairy leaves every year. Lo and behold! (no poppy was harmed in the making of this blog post)

If you ever get the opportunity to plant the Viola 'Beaconsfield', please do so. You will never regret it.

  1. Is that Echinacea the one where it has petals coming out of the center as well as the normal petals? I don't care for those either.

I've had the same experience with Oriental poppies --I actually did rip two out one fall, then the next spring the third one I'd planted (which was larger and therefore didn't get ripped out) bloomed! This year it has two buds. Still seems like a very small reward for a plant that's been taking up space for four years!

  3. That is a beautiful iris. I have one similar to it, but don't know its name, either. I had to laugh about your story about picking up the wrong thing. Just in the last week, at the grocery store, I started to pick out a bag of potatoes, but got sidetracked, and forgot to buy some. I also forgot to get something my husband had forgotten to get for me when he went.

Thanks for your comment on my blog.

  4. Did your poppy bloom? I bought one 4 years ago for $1 (small itty bitty plant). It's been in 4 different spots in my yard and finally found a permanent spot. This yr for the 1st time it bloomed! But short lived because something attacked it before I could even enjoy the blooms. I am livid! What gives poppies?!

Iris are beautiful in person, and almost more beautiful photographed... I had poppies at my first house - the buds always reminded me of fuzzy gonads - isnt that awful???!!!
